This is why you should never attempt to drive across a flooded highway. This Toyota 4Runner got swept off the road just a few feet into the flash flood that was crossing this highway. Because it was night time, you can’t see that this flash flood actually extended about half a mile along the highway, and got much deeper. This vehicle got swept off the road in just 18 inches of water. numerous large branches and even a tree were swept on to the road as well. The two occupants of the vehicle were eventually rescued after about 1 hour.
This occurred on May 30, 2021 at 2am about 2 miles south of La Junta, Colorado. The aware was under a flash flood warning from the National Weather Service.
